Chimney Rock 40th Anniversary

Client
Established in 1980, Chimney Rock’s story unfolded as Hack and Stella Wilson acquired a 180-acre estate on the east side of the Napa Valley’s Silverado Trail, complete with a golf course. Their Cape Dutch-style country house laid the foundation for estate
vineyards, with the premier vintage emerging in 1984 from the initial 59 acres of red and white grape plantations. The iconic Cape Dutch-style winery and tasting room were added in the early 1990s. In 2000, one of the U.S.’s most successful fine wine importers, the Terlato Family, acquired Chimney Rock,
shepherding only the highest standards in viticulture and winemaking, aiming to elevate its status in producing world-class
, artisanal Cabernet Sauvignons.
Project Scope
Chimney Rock celebrates 40 vintages of its iconic Stags Leap District Estate Cabernet Sauvignon with vintage 2023. To commemorate this special occasion, the team wanted to feature an anniversary package that wouldn't alienate consumers after being recognized as Wine Spectator's #5 Wine of the Year while still standing out. Paying homage to the existing package, I created an evolved, elevated design with more in-hand treatments, the addition of a celebratory gold palette, and a secondary bottom label to highlight the messaging. I also assisted in promoting the new package by directing a sizzle video
as well as photoshoot that developed into POS and print ads. This was a good transitional step for the package redesign I led in the next vintage.
